Dr McLelland graduated in 1993, from Dundee University and worked at the Dundee Dental Hospital as a House Officer for one year before joining the Royal Air Force as a Dental Officer in 1995. In October 2000 Dr McLelland joined a specialist referral practice in Leicester; where he worked for three years before joining st.ann's dental in September 2003, devoting his clinical work to Restorative and Cosmetic Dentistry.
In 2002, Dr McLelland obtained his MFGDP degree from the Royal College of Surgeons of London; and he has completed all four levels of his advanced restorative training with Dr Paul Tipton in Manchester. Currently he is completing a Masters Degree in Restorative Dentistry at Leeds University, qualifying in September 2006. He is also fully trained in medico-legal report writing and is a member of The Academy of Experts, UK Register of Expert Witnesses and the Expert Witness Institute, where as an Expert Witness he prepares legal reports for both accident and negligence cases.
